The Muslim mystic al-Hallaj proclaimed, “I am the Truth!” while the Christian saint Catherine of Genoa stated, “My Me is God, nor do I recognize any other Me except my God Himself.” Similarly, figures such as Rumi, Jnaneshvar, Milarepa, Kabir, and Basho from the East, along with Eckhart, Boehme, and Emerson from the West, expressed comparable sentiments. These declarations from the world's eminent mystics were not mere philosophical musings; they stemmed from experiences so profound that all who have undergone them unanimously affirm that they represent the undeniable realization of the ultimate Truth of existence. This experience, referred to as samadhi in Hinduism, nirvana in Buddhism, fana in Islam, and “the mystic union” in Christianity, marks a moment when individual consciousness merges with the consciousness of the entire universe, dissolving all prior perceptions of duality into a profound awareness of indivisible unity.
