The Whirling Ecstasy | Aflaki | Jalal ad-Din Muhammad ar-Rumi | PDF Book Free Download

The Whirling Ecstasy
by Aflaki – Jelal-ed-din Rumi, born in 1207 in Balkh, Persia, passed away in 1273 in Konya, Turkey. He established the Mevlevi order, known for its whirling dervishes, and his most significant work is the Mathnawi, an epic poem that articulates their mystical journey. This work was translated into English by Reynold Nicholson in six volumes published in London in 1926. The present booklet features selections from ‘The Lives of the Gnostics,’ authored by Aflaki, a disciple of Rumi's grandson, between 1318 and 1335. C. Huart translated it into French under the title ‘Les Saints des Derviches Tourneurs’ (Paris, 1918-22).
