Al-Hidayah
(الهداية) is a distinguished classical Islamic legal text authored by Burhan ad-Din al-Marghinani (d. 1197 CE), a notable jurist of the Hanafi school. This work is regarded as one of the most authoritative and extensively studied texts in Hanafi fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence).

Author:

  • Burhan ad-Din Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Abi Bakr al-Marghinani was an Islamic scholar from Marghinan, located in present-day Uzbekistan.
  • He was a prominent figure in the Hanafi tradition and produced several significant writings.

Content:

  • Al-Hidayah serves as a commentary on his earlier work, Bidayat al-Mubtadi ("The Beginner's Guide").
  • The text addresses various elements of Hanafi fiqh, encompassing worship (ibadat), transactions (mu'amalat), marriage, criminal law, and inheritance.
  • It is recognized for its clear, systematic, and succinct presentation of legal principles.

Structure:

  • The work adheres to the traditional structure of Hanafi fiqh, organized into books (kutub) and chapters (abwab).
