A Tale of Two Cities (1859) is a recorded novel by Charles Dickens, set in London and Paris previously and during the French Revolution. The epic recounts to the narrative of the French Doctor Manette, his 18-year-long detainment in the Bastille in Paris and his discharge to live in London with his little girl Lucie, whom he had never met. The story is set against the conditions that hinted at the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror.
It was the best of times, it was the most exceedingly awful of times, it was the time of intelligence, it was the time of stupidity, it was the age of conviction, it was the age of skepticism, it was the period of Light, it was the period of Darkness, it was the spring of expectation, it was the winter of hopelessness, we had everything before us, we didn't have anything before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—to put it plainly, the period was so far like the present time frame, that a portion of its noisiest specialists demanded its being gotten, for good or for malevolence, in the superlative level of correlation as it were.
